EOC Week 5: Social Networks and Job Hunting

The Internet has become such a huge and valuable resource. No matter what age group a person is in, everyone knows technology is the future of all sources. Life in general has changed because technology and the internet; the new way the internet is making a change is in how we seek for jobs. “More companies are trying to tap Facebook Inc.'s 750-million-plus user base to find new employees, threatening traditional job boards and competing with LinkedIn Corp., which has dominated the online professional networking arena. By JOE LIGHTBut I believe judging people through their Facebook profiles can be a disadvantage to many. “CEO Jeff Weiner said users tell the company they want to keep their personal and professional networks separate. By JOE LIGHT” Recruiting jobs by using social networks like Facebook may feel as if it can invade peoples’ privacy. People will not feel as free to post what they please and can feel like they are being controlled by the companies’ judgments. This issue may sound small now but if job recruiting grows it may be a greater problem. It may even unprotect our rights as citizens. People may judge for physical features rather than work methods and experiences and may cause managers to judge illegally to hire their workers. But like me, I do not use Facebook just like others as well, how are they going to see our information? “Facebook hires account for less than 1% of the total hires companies are making, according to Jobs2Web, which helps companies track the sources of candidates and hires.” Facebook was created to socialize with people, express opinions and get involve and I believe Facebook should stick with that. Having websites like Monster or other job recruiting websites, keeps social or personal issues apart from work, which makes everything professional.
