EOC Week 3: My Demographics

flickr  By deanj

I am the daughter of two Baby Boomers and I can clearly see the difference how each generation changes and how each generation determines how the next is going to develop. I was born in the 90’s; therefore, I have been labeled as a Millennial, which are also known for being the Generation Y. It is interesting how marketers study human populations, they observe and judge how a certain population acts and such observations are correct. Millennials are both materialistic as well as technological. As much as I wish I was not materialistic I cannot live without my computer, my phone, my bags, and clothes.  If all my material things I use in my everyday basis were taken from me, I would feel as if the world has ended (at least mine). One thing that all of the Millennials have in common is their utter fluency and comfort with digital technology. They don’t just embrace technology, it’s a way of life.”  (Page74. Marketing an Introduction by Armstrong, Kotler) Technology is a great thing that has captivated in our lives. It is such a great development that it has even passed on to older generations like, the Baby Boomers and the Generation X. I personally, use the computer at least one time a day, either for social networking, homework, or even business payments. “The Millennials were the first generation to grow up in a world filled with computers, cellphones, satellite TV, iPods, and online social networks. A recent study found that 91 percent of Millennials are on the Web, making up 32 percent of all U.S. Internet users. According to another study, 77 percent of Millennials frequent social networking sites and 71 percent use instant messaging. “All generations are comfortable with technology, but this is the generation that’s been formed by technology,” says a Yahoo! executive. (Page74. Marketing an Introduction by Armstrong, Kotler) Everything I do  has to be technologically done so I could be able to continue my busy life. It is such an advantage to be able to swim through technology so easily; therefore, I am pleased to help my mother learn technology  because “it’s not something separate. It’s just something they do.” says a Yahoo! executive. (Page74. Marketing an Introduction by Armstrong, Kotler)

EOC Week 2: Boston Consulting Group - Video Games

Technology has drastically changed during the past decades; while it seems scary to some it is a great advantage for uplifting technology as well as money. Videogames have entertained many families through the nation for years and companies have grown use to that, and have forgot the changes hard times make on all of us.
"Videogame sales plunged by a record 29% year over year, according to market-research firm NPD Group. Meanwhile, sales of consoles such as Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 and Nintendo Co.'s Wii plummeted 38%. The steep drops came on top of a gradual sales decline that began in March."

"Many console and PC game sales are also being cannibalized by digitally downloaded games and alternative entertainment sources like Apple Inc.'s iPhone, which offers thousands of games that can cost only 99 cents or even nothing at all."
Pretty much, if things are not successful they will become dead or in other words they become dogs. A dog to me is the pc games; it is a low selling product, which I believe Play Stations are a big question mark. A Play Station could have a horrible end in the times we are in or a boost and benefit out of it, if it is smartly sold. The iPhone and any apple products, I believe are at the top of the world right now. Apple products have great software and can do so many things with them that others just cannot do, that is include video games. I guess many people have realized and asked themselves why they would need anything else when they have everything they can have with just one device, which is the iPhone or iPad.
"Games provide so much value that you don't necessarily need to buy other stuff…"(Videogame Makers Can't Dodge Recession by YUKARI IWATANI KANE)

EOC Week 1: Great Customer Service

I have gone to many restaurants, but none have ever gotten my attention like this restaurant. Whenever I think about fast food restaurants, images of disgusting food and horrible customer service comes to mind, but I have to admit that “Wendy’s” has proved me wrong. Comparing to many of the fast food restaurants I have been to, I have to say “Wendy’s” is my favorite fast food place. Every time I go to a “Wendy’s” I feel good and welcomed and that is what keeps me coming back. It has the perfect balance a customer needs; what I mean by that is that a customer gets help when its needed and it is given time when its wanted. One time when I went to a “Wendy’s” and ordered a burger, they forgot to put onions on it. As a great onion lover I went up to the cashier and asked  if they could put onions on my burger. They gladly got my meal, added more onions than they usually put and added a size to my fries. It was a great experience. This might seem like a really small thing, but it is true what people say, “It’s the small things that count.” They truly do count, its the little things that make a person come back or never come them again.  If they had treated me as poorly like other restaurants had, most likely I will have never came back. “…Zappos, one of the world’s fastest-growing Web retailers. The secret to Zappos’ success? It’s really no secret at all... It has a passion for creating customer value and relationships.’’ And that is what buyers are looking for, an experience and a relationship. In my example, “Wendy’s” gave me a great friendly experience that keeps me satisfied and brings me back again.

EOC Week 1: My Voice

This photograph was selected for Voice 2011 and displayed at CSN Art Gallery

Ever since i can remember I have loved creating things out of nothing. The fact that I could create a beautiful dress and little accessories with left over fabrics or even trash exited me very much. It all began as experiments and past times when I was a child but now, it has become into a growing carrier. Getting my Bachelors in Fashion Retailing and being active in world of design is actually not a hard thing to do; specially growing up with such a creative and crafty mother. My mother was my first inspiration and my greatest support. She has taught me many things that I know, and if it was not for her i would not be in the position where I am standing now.
I am fearless of the tomorrow; I know I can handle any situation and obstacle that may be thrown at me to try to make me fall down so I cannot become successful in my life and carriers. I am not afraid of what new chapters fashion will bring; I am positive I can break them. Fashion is about making great clothes that opens the imagination of even the most closed minded of people. Fashion is about breaking rules not playing it safe. The sky is everyone’s limit and for that reason my passion for clothes and style should never end, but grow.
